This page lists the categories of companies worth comparing when you request quotes for a PPM/DITY move. The moving industry changes often — carriers merge, discount programs come and go, and pricing shifts with fuel and demand — so treat any company-specific quote or discount as something to verify directly with the provider, not a guarantee.
Options worth comparing when you request quotes:
- Rental trucks (e.g. Penske, Budget, U-Haul) — you drive and do the physical work yourself; compare the quote against what you'd pay to have it done for you.
- "You-Pack, We-Drive" trailers/containers (e.g. U-Pack, PODS) — a company drops off a trailer or container, you load it, they drive or ship it.
- Full-service movers — a crew packs, loads, drives, and unloads for you. Convenient, but get the full quote before assuming it costs more than doing it yourself.
Ask every company you call whether they currently offer a military discount — many do, but the amount and terms change often enough that we won't quote specific numbers here.
Helpful Hints
- Always get at least three quotes before settling on a particular option or company.
- Make sure you understand the full PPM/DITY process before committing to any purchase.
- Visit your local TMO/JPPSO before committing to any expenditures — they can tell you what will and won't be reimbursed.
